In today’s video, Lindsey Piper, LISW will give us a run down on EMDR therapy and how it can help! EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing and was originally developed to treat PTSD. Today it is used to treat trauma, depression, anxiety, substance use disorder and even different phobias.
EMDR is done by talking through the event that is traumatic while your therapist provokes bilateral stimulation. They may use a light, hand buzzers, or a finger moving back and forth, as long as both sides of your brain are being activated.
