The Evidence for Exercise

Mental Health Awareness Week Day 5: The Evidence for Exercise

As a mental health professional I speak to every single one of my clients about exercise. This video explains why.

1. Exercise is nature’s free anti-depressants regulating mood, sleep patterns and digestion

2. Traumatic stress rearranges the brain wiring and yoga reverses this damage by reactivating areas of the brain dedicated to pleasure, engagement, control and trust.

3. In crisis we are designed to move – just like animals. Research shows that if we move in the aftermath of trauma we can significantly reduce the likelihood of developing PTSD.

4. We can strengthen and grow parts of the brain a bit like a muscle. This will protect us from neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s.
