Being an empath can be a result of childhood trauma. The closest medical term for empath is a highly sensitive person and they often identify as the INJF personality type. Would so much empathy exist within a person that wasn’t traumatised? The ability to pick up all the emotions in a room and the attempt to pander to these many needs is more like a disorder. And what happens when this condition is long term? Studies are currently considering that it leads to complex long term trauma and C-PTSD. Feeling shame and guilt excessively is a symptom of C-PTSD. Another symptom is difficulty controlling your emotions, another behaviour shared by many empaths.
