Maternity & Midwifery Hour: Preventing Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder through Compassionate Care

Sue Macdonald, Co-editor, Mayes Midwifery
Dr Jenny Patterson, Midwife, Edinburgh Napier University
Dr Diane Ménage, Lecturer in Midwifery, De Montfort University

The need for compassionate midwifery care for women and for midwives was identified in two separate pioneering research studies by Drs Diane Menage and Jenny Patterson and in this session their combined findings are explored.

They present their implications for practice, the profession and, in the context of COVID-19, how compassion can be an effective intervention to reduce the long term impact on women and families, and on midwives themselves.
