Get to know Lara Slimmer, LPC – Choosing Therapy

Hi! My name is Lara Slimmer and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor, a National Board-Certified Counselor, as well as a Certified Trauma Professional. Above all, I want to thank you for beginning this journey. Engaging in therapy can often make an individual apprehensive, perhaps even anxious. If we do not allow ourselves to be vulnerable, we do not allow ourselves to grow. I too have felt powerless at times. From this experience I have found the strength within myself to live a life filled with happiness. Throughout the therapeutic journey, I will walk side by side with you, never forcing you to discuss that which you are not ready for.

Currently, I offerc, as well as well as group therapy. I focus primarily on depression, anxiety and trauma. Yet, I also aim at assisting clients with self-expression, here and now functioning, coping with current life difficulties, and on helping the client expand problem solving capacities. I am also experienced with working with Personality Disorders, Behavioral Disorders, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, in addition to adolescents and adults involved in the criminal justice system.
With regards to my approach, it is my belief that one size does not fit all. I utilize a diverse range of techniques derived from Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Forensic Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Solution Focused Brief Therapy, as well as Person Centered Therapy. In this way, I am able to collaborate with the client and adapt therapy to the client’s individual needs.

In order to help my clients, develop ac, I emphasize helping the client foster greater trust in the therapeutic setting, in myself and in interpersonal relationships. My style is supportive and accepting, yet challenging and open.

Please know that you are not alone in your journey toward mental and emotional well-being. If you feel that we would be a good fit, I encourage you to book an appointment. I am here to help you imagine a life better than you currently know.
