Coming Out of a CPTSD Flashback

Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder can be debilitating. While I’ve suffered with this illness for years, the events of the last several years have greatly exacerbated my symptoms.

Few people would call me weak, but in a flashback, I become a helpless child again. Reminding myself that the strong man I am today is my protector helps, and self-soothing by rubbing my chest and embracing myself also helps. It seems the key is to give my Inner child compassion in the moments when historically I had been chastised for my sadness, or for ruining other people’s good times.

The labels forced on us as children are hard to shake, but ignoring their effects will only chip away at our happiness. You are not alone, you deserve to be loved, and Your emotional aliveness makes you special.

If you need help, reach out to a professional. If you just need to talk, feel free to message me. ❤️
