Presented by Shawn J. Gourley of Military with PTSD.
Unfortunately most of us are never explained the why behind the actions of PTSD. It seems that most of us are given many facts and statistics about PTSD, but no explanation unless we ask direct questions. Talking to professionals can help you better understand why your veteran acts in certain ways when you know what to ask. The next three videos outline our understanding of the medical community’s research on how PTSD affects the brain and subsequently the veteran’s behavior. Research has shown that PTSD can cause a wide variety of symptoms; anger, hyper vigilance, paranoia, insomnia, lethargy, emotional numbness, and so many more. Taking time to learn and understand this can help you be more prepared to talk to a licensed counselor who can help you better understand why your veteran acts in certain ways. Clearing up those misperceptions may help your marriage to grow and might ultimately help you find the connection you have longed for with your veteran.
