TanTe – Social Anxiety

—–
Welcome to TAN TE (忐忑)! The Chinese word “tante” means nervous or apprehensive.
There are many forms of anxiety: Generalised Anxiety Disorder, Panic Disorder, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and so on. There is even a new anxiety form called PESD (Post Election Stress Disorder).
And then we have “social anxiety” which is the topic of this video.
The Chinese word “tante” explains perfectly the nervousness and apprehension before you enter an inconvenient situation. You literally feel how the state of tante takes possession of you and that alone feels very uncomfortable.
PLEASE CHECK OUT: Tan Te also is a Chinese folk song. The Chinese singer Gong Linna sang the song called “tante” or “disturbing”. The lyrics are a string of vocals, not translatable into any language. It is considered as a divine song that is impossible to imitate. But in my opinion that song gives a great expression of how you feel when you are in the state of “tante”.)

My name is Jutta Heitland and I work as a counsellor in Wellington, New Zealand. I am not only a counsellor and social worker but also a “word lover”. In my channel I describe new, amazing, touching and interesting words that also are connected to my work as a counsellor.

You might ask: What’s the connection between counselling and words? I think and believe there is a strong connection.
Other cultures have a lot of wisdom, and of course, problems too. I believe words can express quite exactly feelings and thoughts, worries and joys. Sometimes our languages are missing something that in other languages is described very accurately. So, why don’t we enrich our languages with words or phrases from other cultures?
While working on my videos I learned many new fascinating words that are absolutely worth being included in our dictionaries.

My explanations only can give a short overview about the above word or phrase. If you are interested and keen on knowing more, click on the provided links or just go ahead and explore and discover more yourself.
If you ever find a new word, you think is wonderful, let me know please!

Thank you!
